After your LLC is formed, you must operate your business under its legal name to maintain liability protection. This checklist ensures all your business assets are correctly aligned with your new entity. Failure to do this can risk "piercing the corporate veil."
1. FINANCIAL ALIGNMENT
Ensure all financial accounts and processors use the legal LLC name.
- [ ] Business Bank Account: My business bank account is registered under the full legal name of the LLC (e.g., "XYZ Operations LLC").
- [ ] Payment Processors: All payment gateways (Stripe, PayPal, LemonSqueezy, etc.) have been updated to reflect the business as the LLC, not me as an individual.
- [ ] Client Invoices: My invoicing software and templates have been updated. All invoices are now sent from the LLC.
2. LEGAL & CONTRACTUAL ALIGNMENT
Ensure all legal agreements reflect the new entity.
- [ ] Client Contracts: My master service agreement / client contract template has been updated. The "service provider" is now listed as the LLC.
- [ ] Vendor Agreements: Any contracts with vendors or suppliers have been updated or re-signed under the LLC's name where possible.
- [ ] Terms of Service & Privacy Policy: My website's legal documents (Terms of Service, Privacy Policy) clearly state that the site is owned and operated by the LLC.
3. PUBLIC-FACING ASSET ALIGNMENT
Ensure your public brand reflects the legal entity.
- [ ] Website Footer: The footer of my primary business website clearly displays the legal name of the LLC (e.g., "©2024 XYZ Operations LLC").
- [ ] Primary Social Media: The "About" or profile sections of my primary business social media accounts have been updated to mention the LLC where appropriate.
- [ ] Email Signature: My professional email signature has been updated to include the LLC's legal name.
